Adult Individual Psychotherapy

The National Institute for the Psychotherapies offers affordable, high quality psychodynamic psychotherapy both in-person and online via telehealth.

Therapy is designed to help with a range of problems and mental health challenges that affect us throughout our lives. Currently we meet with many people deeply impacted by living through the collective and individual challenges of the COVID pandemic. We also offer help with:

  • Depression

  • Anxiety

  • Relationship issues

  • Childhood abuse

  • Guilt/Shame

  • Racial trauma

  • Job loss/Career change

  • Death/Loss of a loved one

  • Many other challenges

Our therapists strive to practice from an anti-racist, LGBTQIA-affirmative, culturally sensitive framework, and to be mindful of issues of equity and privilege. Our Treatment Center is ADA-compliant.

The therapists working in the Adult Treatment Center are all graduate and postgraduate level candidates doing specialized training under the supervision of senior clinicians. Confidentiality is always observed. With more than 80 therapists serving our Treatment Centers we will carefully match you with the right person for your needs. If the match is not right for you, please let us know and we will connect you with another therapist. Your therapist will collaborate with you to help you clarify and achieve your treatment goals.

Change becomes possible when you and your therapist build a therapeutic relationship. The space of trust and vulnerability you create with your therapist occurs in a safe and confidential environment at NIP. This is your space to process and understand the life events that helped shape you. In that space, you create your personal, relationship, and mental health goals as you work through your fears and your past.

Life brings challenges at many different points of our growth and development and can involve long-held internal wounds or new and difficult changes occurring in the world around us. An effective therapy can help you develop flexibility and new tools to face those challenges. Our goal is to help you live your life with greater personal understanding, happiness and satisfaction.

Low-Cost Treatment Option

NIPTI may be able to offer special reductions in order to allow patient and therapist to meet more frequently than once per week. Those who have undertaken this treatment option often report a profound shift within themselves resulting in less anxiety, greater self-confidence and closer intimate relationships.

Intake Process

In order to leave as much time as possible for you to talk about yourself and what you are seeking in a therapy experience, we have streamlined the intake process so that, to the extent possible, all necessary information can be gathered before the initial consultation. If you would like to be considered for therapy in our Treatment Center, you will receive a form to complete in advance of the actual intake meeting. Any questions you may have can be answered by emailing intake@nipinst.org or calling 212-582-1566, ext. 7724, for guidance.

Please note that completing the initial consultation does not guarantee placement with an NIPTI therapist. The fee for the initial consultation is non-refundable as it allows an assessment to ascertain if your needs are best met by NIPTI's services, or if you would be better served by a referral to another provider.

Our hours of operation are flexible to accommodate most schedules, as we are open weekdays, evenings and Saturdays.
